A disc jockey could perform at a celebratory party; however this has much less appeal than a live band. There is something exciting about a group of people playing instruments verses speakers music from speakers that will have people up and out on the dance floor.

Additionally, a live birthday party band could take requests from guests who want to hear a certain kind of music. They could also make announcements about the person doing the celebrating while soft music played underneath.
