Almost everyone has heard about millionaires being made with internet marketing but if you made a hundred calls and offered those people the opportunity, a high percentage would pull that cushy feeling of a regular job up around their neck. They’ll blow you off like a bad temptation.
Unfortunately, entrepreneurs make a small percentage of our population at this time. The idea of starting their own business has been unfairly stamped with a big warning label “High Risk.” This is a major change from a few decades ago. We’ve gone soft and it has shown up in our economy.
To get the point of how this is simply an attitude that can be changed, take a look at this scenario of someone being offered a job with a large corporation.
“Hello Mr. Jones. I’m calling you from a debt-free company that has a terrific product and in-house training. We have job openings for marketing specialists. We will train you, let you hire as many people as you want with one proviso … if you don’t sell anything, you won’t get paid. On the other hand, Mr. Jones, if you study hard and do your job, you could make quite a bundle! You could even retire within a couple of years on a healthy six-figure income. Sound good?”
Mr. Jones, thinking himself a wise and reasonable fellow, turns this job offer down. Why? Because Mr. Jones knows that an offer like this cannot possibly be true. He knows he will never be able to do it. He is suspicious of anything that does not provide the comfort of a minimum wage. Where did he get such an idea? Ask and let him talk about it. In doing so, he just may change his mind. If not, there is no point in arguing with him. He’s not the one you’re looking for.
So why wouldn’t Mr. Jones take the offer? He has failed at it before or his associates failed or a family member failed and, “Oh, no, he’s not going to fail like that again or ever. He can’t see that he’s sitting right smack in the middle of failure already insisting that it won’t happen! In other words, he never stopped failing through his inability to ever get started.
Should Mr. Jones ever learn marketing, perhaps he gets forced to learn it by his employer, he might break through his barriers. He might dabble around on the internet and pick up a few free books. Training often raises a person’s self-confidence enough to overcome a person’s fears.
There are major differences in views of predictability and comfort. While Mr. Jones needs his wage, schedule and easily done job, the entrepreneur is only happy when his destiny is in his own hands. he is comfortable when every day is a new adventure. Luck has nothing to do with anyone’s fortune.
It is not age, color, creed, nationality, race or even personality. In fact, internet marketing is one place where none of that matters. At an awards seminar for a network marketing company, you will see people of all characteristics going up on stage to get their bonus check and/or luxury car. At one awards dinner, an eighty-year-old lady wheeled herself onto stage with a huge smile on her face as she collected her half-million dollar bonus.
Some call this winning attitude “the personal why” or motivation but the idea is a driving force that makes you want it badly enough to do what you have to do to get it. Could be time with the kids or travel but its personal. The 9-to-5er doesn’t get this. Ask the grocery clerk the last time his company held a motivational conference. He has his wage, his favorite TV show, food on the table and a comfortable bed. It’s a trap. Network marketing just would not go without that drive.
Every business needs a few of these fired up people and most do. The girl who remembers everyone’s birthday, the one who tells jokes and even the guy who insists things get done. Without them, people would not want to come to work.
In Network Marketing, the leaders hold the whole thing together and that is a challenge some people cannot resist. It keeps them alive and thriving. The rewards can sometimes surpass your wildest dreams and that can make it all the more fun. Are you a couch potato or entrepreneur? Only you can answer that question.
