What Are Federal Grants?

Government grants refers to monetary funds and money that are legally presented to people who fulfill certain standards by various government bureaus, corporations, privileged individuals, departments, foundations etc. The citizens of the United States of America can apply for grants. Most individuals are unaware of these grants granted by the government and how easily one can apply and obtain them. Grants are broadly divided into four main types. Project grants – are those, which are granted to individuals on a competitive basis. These grants are given to individuals who conduct scientific research, help educational goals, welfare works, various technological developments, healthcare, arts related projects, etc. Formula grants – are used for people who need employment-training and those finding it hard to raise a family. Categorical grants – are grants, which are employed for several reasons like urban forestry assistance, hazard abatement project and other specified projects. Block grants – are grants in which a big amount of money is given to state or lower government bodies with specific conditions on how they must be used.

Either you should be a U.S. citizen above 18 years of age or you should be a resident alien if you want to apply for and claim government grants. It is only if you satisfy these standards will you be able to avail a copy of the grant application package, complete the application and submit it.
