Most modern tanning beds contain some time of bulb. These long bulbs emit ultraviolet (UV) rays and produce a bluish hue as they give your skin the bronze glow you desire.

These bulbs work by changing electricity into UV light. This occurs because of special components within the bulb such as inert gasses, phosphorus and mercury. By adding electricity to the lamps, mercury produces UV light energy. This emission is mimics the suns natural UV rays and results in the tan you desire.

Tanning bulbs must be properly cared for and maintained in order for them to last and work properly. Dirt can actually cause the bulbs to dim and malfunction if left alone for long periods of time. Faulty bulbs can be hazardous and also not produce the tan you want. Such dirt can lengthen the time required to get the tan you want. This is why its important to frequently check your bulbs and immediate replace them when you find old ones.

You should replace all of the bulbs at the same time. This is because new bulbs produce a tan more quickly and are typically the strongest of the group. If you only replace burnt out bulbs, you will end up with an uneven tan. Additionally, have all new bulbs will reduce the time necessarily to achieve your desired look.

Try to purchase brands that are of quality and will last for longer periods of time. There’s no point in purchasing cheaper brands that don’t last as long. Instead, shop wisely and seek advice from other tanning bed owners. Shop around for different brands until you find one that works for you.

Use a UV reader to determine exactly how much UV light is being emitted by your tanning bulbs. Doing so will take the guesswork out of figuring out when to replace the bulbs in your bed. Make sure that the bulbs are frequently replaced so that you can get the full impact of your tanning session.
