Heeling is an obedience exercise for your puppy whereby instead of walking ahead or behind you your puppy learns to walk by your side.

So that it knows where you are going it is very important to teach the dog to focus upon you rather than getting distracted by every second thing that comes his way.

Other commands such as sit, go, stay and others are less complicated than teaching heeling, which is a part of dog obedience training.

It’s not that difficult a task to house train puppies, especially if you know how to go about it.

You can teach the puppy to heel during the obedience training, and whether you take it for an evening walk or take it out for potty, be sure that it keep with your pace.

You can put a snug collar around your puppy’s neck and walk it with you, as heeling often begins with puppy leash training.

If he is left behind or trotting ahead, put a little train on the collar to control his pace.

Your puppy will start listening to you once he has learned the basic lesson of his obedience training, even without the leash.

To make use of the reward technique it is also advisable to keep some nice smelling sausages in your pocket.

Without being distracted by the butterflies and cars on the road the smell will help your puppy to walk close to you.

You can also walk a little fast for drawing attention of your puppy and reward him when he starts gaining pace to walk with you, with sausages and his favorite food items.

You can replace the foods with clapping your hands, appreciating his efforts and words of praises such as ‘good boy’, once he has learned the art of walking with you.

Initially your little pet might get distracted by cats or other dogs, but do not get impatient and punish them as house training puppies does not take very long, especially as they want to please you and would follow your command most of the time just because they want to keep you happy.
