Steel Sheet Guillotine (also referred to as plate guillotine) is used to cut sheets of metal into small pieces in accordance with the need of the end user. Cutting sheet metal using a plate guillotine is simple and straight forward. However, proper training needs to be done any time a new person is tasked with operating the guillotine.
Adequately training personnel not only ensures their safety but also a longer life for the guillotine blade used by the machine. Safety comes first when working with steel sheet guillotines, since any tool which uses large machine knives such as these must necessarily be treated with a healthy dose of respect.
1. Setting up
The first step in ensuring the proper use of a plate guillotine is its correct installation. Make sure that you read the installation instructions that come with the equipment even if you have set up a plate guillotine from a different manufacturer before. This is because the installation of plate guillotines differs from one manufacturer to another.
One important thing to keep in mind is that the guillotine is securely installed so that it will not move while it is in use. The machine needs to be set up at the appropriate height so that the operator does not need to bend over or strain to reach anything while the tool is in use. Making sure that the plate guillotine blade are properly fitted and fastened can prevent many possible accidents.
2. Maintenance work
It probably is no surprise to hear that there is a lot of pressure which the steel sheet guillotine blade experiences while it cuts sheet metal. There is resistance from the sheet metal and the motion of the machine itself; these factors cause the bolts and other fastenings which give the machine its structural integrity to loosen. In order to make sure that your plate guillotine continues to operate safely and efficiently, all bolts and screws must be regularly checked.
If the guide beam is not securely fastened, the blades can become misaligned, resulting in irregular edges or inaccurate cuts. Blades which are misaligned can scrape on or strike on another while the machine is in use, damaging the blades, the machine or causing serious accidents.
3. Lubrication
As with any machine which uses moving parts, regular lubrication is key. The blade guards on a plate guillotine blade and other moving parts in the machine have to be lubricated frequently – just how frequently depends on how much use the tool machine sees as well as the nature of the material being cut.
If the machine is not well lubricated, it will lead to excessive and unnecessary wear thus increasing the cost of maintenance. Lack of lubrication may also lead to excessive vibration of the guillotine when working that could cause disconnection of electric connections. As part of lubrication, you should also check the oil levels and change the hydraulic oil regularly.
