When it comes time to potty train your toddler, you can usually expect somewhat of a challenge. Potty training boys can prove to be even trickier. But if you take the time to learn a few tips, your potty training should go smoothly and in no time at all, your child will no longer need diapers.

Some people don’t realize that there is a significant difference between potty training boys and potty training girls. Many parents have confessed that it seems to be harder when it comes to boys, but taking account these few tips may prove to help.

When potty training any child, it is best to start with teaching them while sitting. It’s possible for boys to learn to urinate while standing, but to eliminate any confusion between urinating and bowel movements, the best thing is to begin with sitting. Once they have mastered going while sitting and have not had any accidents, you can start teaching them to go while standing.

Next you need to decide what sort of toilet device you will use. The options are a potty chair or a potty seat. The potty chair is a small potty made for teaching while the potty seat is a padded cushion that fits onto the standard toilet seat. If you go with the potty seat, you will either need to help your child or get them a step stool to use. Another tip to helping your son learn is to get dad involved.

With a male role model, you might find that your boy is learning quicker. In fact, it is believed that one of the reasons so many boys take longer to be potty trained is because they are taught by their mother. Dad will especially have an easier time when it comes to time for stand up urinating.

Many parents what their children potty trained as easily as possible. However, this may not be beneficial to a child. It may be a good idea to wait until a child can communicate his urge to use the bathroom before trying to train him. Also, all children develop at different rates, so just because one boy is potty trained does not mean there is a problem because yours is not.

The best tip of all for potty training boys is to be patient. Don’t rush your child if they show sure signs of not being ready. Keep trying. Don’t let accidents become set backs. Make sure to reassure your child and reward them for doing a good job. A good reward is letting your son pick out his own big boy underwear when he finally does get the potty training down.
